An exhibition of 118 paintings and 20 limited edition etchings by Sydney award winning artist Wendy Sharpe was held at the Australian National Maritime Museum July 2012 with all proceeds going toward the conservation of Mawson’s Huts at Cape Denison.
Sponsored by the Foundation and with the generous support of the Australian Antarctic Division(AAD), Wendy spent 6 weeks onboard the P & O’s research and supply vessel Aurora Australis with scientists and the official party which helicoptered into Cape Denison for a brief visit to celebrate the Centenary of the arrival of the 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) led by Douglas Mawson in January 1912. This collection of paintings is unique as they were painted by the artist while onboard the Aurora Australis, apart from the three oil paintings, the “Antarctic Fridge” and the limited edition etching.
Wendy’s wonderful works are for sale and can be purchased by contacting us at the Mawson’s Huts Foundation.
Wendy’s Sharpe’s Antarctica travelled to Hobart and was on display at the Salamanca Arts Centre August 2013 – a big thanks to everyone who came and supported this exhibition
